Objective

Scoping

Scoping Dialogues Workshops connect and immerse diverse stakeholders / actors around the scope of a complex challenge.

How might our stakeholders fully understand and connect around the scope of our challenge?

  • Inclusive conversations with diverse stakeholders to explore and define the challenge at hand.

  • Networking activities to connect people and socialize key aspects of the challenge.

  • Creative sessions to map out the landscape, identifying who and what is involved, and key sub-challenges.

At the end, you’ll have:

  • A clear, agreed-upon problem statement.

  • A defined scope outlining the challenge's boundaries.

  • A review of the challenge's landscape, including key stakeholders, barriers, and sub-challenges.

  • A connected community of diverse stakeholders engaged around the challenge.

The world is facing increasingly complex challenges. To address these, we need urgent dialogue and collaboration. However, ensuring everyone has a seat at the table to collaborate effectively is not easy. In fact it’s really hard.

Our facilitators are experts in ensuring the process of innovation leaves no one behind. We regularly bring together scientists, local knowledge holders, policymakers, international development experts, private sector actors, internal team members (and more), so that they might imagine and design resilient and impactful solutions, together.

Inclusive Innovation brought a huge amount of energy and creativity to our event. Exactly what we needed! Our activity comprised a mix of stakeholders at different career stages and we wanted to ensure everyone was engaged and able to contribute. We were impressed by the facilitators’ ability to bring everyone along, make them feel relaxed and deliver a productive session. Having Inclusive Innovation with us at the event made it much easier for us to engage with participants and make the most of the day.

Victoria Mico Egea

Head of International Funds Design, UKRI

I found the workshop to be one of the most important events that I have been involved in. This is mainly because of the selected diverse participants, combined with the highly skilled facilitators!

Rowanna Ewings

Senior Lecturer, UK

We brought in Inclusive Innovation to help run a workshop to bring physicists from the UK and six African countries together. The value that the Inclusive Innovation team brought to the event was significant: their extensive experience was so valuable in structuring the event, facilitating an inclusive space for all attendees to feel comfortable and contribute effectively, sympathetic to delegate’s cultural differences, skilfully pacing the process and leading delegates to a point that new collaborations emerged. That all this was done in a highly professional, flexible way against the backdrop of external factors meaning that the event had to be changed from in-person to online at a week’s notice, was deeply impressive. We would not have achieved anywhere near as good an outcome without the Inclusive Innovation team guiding the journey. Thank you!

Stephen Loader

Head of Cross-Cutting and International Programmes,

Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

Perhaps the most important skills that I acquired were listening skills and the ability to suspend judgment while listening to another person. That does not come naturally to a trained scientist. Further, I learned ways of encouraging collaboration amongst students (perhaps even colleagues) through the creative use of post-it notes. This is (to me) a novel approach and also allows everybody in class to contribute equally.

Aliza le Roux (PhD)

University of the Free State, Qwaqwa Campus

Honestly, the workshop was great! We learned so much while also getting to know our peers and strengthening ties for life!

 João Borges

University of Aveiro, Portugal, GYA Fellow

This was my first experience of freely mixing with scientists from all disciplines and learning how to collaborate effectively and respectfully.

Africa Science Leadership Programme Fellow

The workshop has strengthened my belief in the importance of cross-disciplinary collaborations in addressing complex contemporary challenges and introduced me to the concept of "collective leadership" to pursue these objectives!

GYA Fellow

I loved having the opportunity to team up and work with other African experts during the training. This was great and we will tap into their expertise in our project(s).

Deus Ishengoma

Research Scientist and Professor | PhD, Tanzania

The Belmont Forum Advancing Leadership Workshop was an incredibly valuable experience. The workshop has expanded my perspective on collaborative research and its potential to drive real-world impact. Thank you for organizing such a meaningful and well-structured event!

Thao Thi Phuong Nguyen

Researcher, Vietnam

I appreciated the workshop's focus on practical tools and strategies that can be directly applied to address real life challenges. The interactive sessions and hands-on activities worked particularly well, as they encouraged active engagement.
